Spanish I students began class by writing selected phrases from their notes in Spanish on their warm up papers (these will be turned in on Friday). After practicing the sounds of Spanish, students practiced their pronunciation of unfamiliar words in Spanish. We then reviewed our #'s 1-100 then learned how to write and say the date in Spanish. After lunch, we practiced asking and answering basic questions in Spanish using complete sentences. Students should continue to review all of their notes for pronunciation as well as meaning. Tomorrow, we will begin work on our first presentations in Spanish!

Class was set up in groups today in order to learn from each other's strengths and help with our areas of weakness. I discussed that we would have group as well as individual work to do in these groups and that group work does not mean copying the work of anyone else, but that they are to share their reasons and thought processes even study practices with each other in order to build their team. Students will earn group points (not grades) for appropriate classroom participation. They will also lose points when anyone is not following our classroom rules. I hope everyone enjoys this new journey!
Students began class with a crossword puzzle using their Golden Ticket. After taking this up, we practiced our Sounds of Spanish for pronunciation purposes. We put this to practical use by breaking down and pronouncing unfamiliar Spanish words properly. We then took new notes on #'s 1-100+ in Spanish. We recited our #'s in our groups at the end of class. Students should practice their #s and other vocab for homework. See Documents page for today's warmup crossword, ppt w new notes and #'s guided notesheet. Students began class by writing down some of the vocabulary from their "Golden Ticket." We turned in this as well as yesterday's warm up. After this, students received a Sounds of Spanish paper which they are to keep handy for the next several weeks. We will use this sheet each day over the next few weeks to work on our pronunciation. We practiced pronunciation of words as a class, then students were allowed to group up and practice pronouncing items on the "Golden Ticket." After lunch, I asked several students questions that they were to answer in Spanish using this sheet. We then learned a children's rhyme to help us with pronunciation as well as asking and answering questions in Spanish.
See Documents page for the sounds of Spanish worksheet. After answering some questions from yesterday's class using their syllabus, Spanish I students took notes on the Spanish alphabet and how to pronounce each letter. We added the 3 rules of stress and practiced pronouncing words in Spanish. As Spanish is phonetic these skills are necessary to communication. Students were given our Golden Ticket with this Unit's vocab to begin study of meaning, but also to practice their pronunciation. We will continue with this in tomorrow's class.
