We went through several English song lyrics with different versions of "to be" in them and identified whether each use would be Ser or Estar. Then students completed a worksheet where they had to identify which verb to use, conjugate it correctly according to the given subject, and prove why it is that verb with the acronyms from our notes. After this, we played Jenga with the uses and conjugations of Ser/Estar.
U5 vocab Quiz Thursday 1/30 using circumlocution (Spanish to Spanish) See Documents pg for today's ppt w/ the warm up, review of Ser/Estar and a small class practice as well as the worksheet using Ser/Estar that was turned in today in class. Spanish II students began class by filling out a circumlocution worksheet using U5 vocabulary. Circumlocution skills are very important in Spanish II as we are getting more into communication skills. Our Vocabulary Quizzes will all be circumlocution (spanish to spanish). After turning in our warm ups, we filled out a CLOZE activity for a song we didnt have time to get to in yesterday's class. Students were to list 5 words (more than 2 letters) in the song they already knew and give the English definitions for. Then we listened to the song and filled in verbs from the list provided. We listened to this a couple of times so students could get their ears adjusted to listening in Spanish and catch the missing verbs. After this we reviewed the verbs Ser and Estar (both mean "tobe" but are used differently). We then added to what we learned in SpI with information that we will be learning in Spanish II. I talked to them about all the steps involved in one sentence especially when there are 2 verbs with the same/similar meanings. We practiced Ser/Estar as a class, then listened to a song using parts of both verbs. After the song, students completed a worksheet using the different verbs for "to be."
